What size dumpster do you need for a roof tear-off?
For one layer of asphalt shingles, a 20 square roof is roughly 1.4 to 2.4 tons and a 25 square roof is roughly 1.7 to 3 tons. That points to a 12 or 16 yard dumpster for one layer, and a second layer doubles the weight.
Do you need a dumpster permit in Chicago?
If the dumpster sits in the public way, such as the street or an alley, Chicago requires a permit, and the dumpster company applies for it, not you. On private property, the City's dumpster permit does not apply.
Can you throw away a TV in Illinois?
Illinois has banned televisions from landfills since January 1, 2026, and the ban covers households. WasteBox accepts TVs and other electronics in its dumpsters, so mention them when you call.
