What changes inside the city limits

Three things. Placement is tighter: a driveway lane, an alley behind a two-flat, or the curb in front of a building with no yard at all. The permit is the hauler's, which is us, so there is no application on your side. And the run from Lemont is longer than a suburban drop, so a day's notice helps us put your delivery into a sensible route; same day is possible when the route allows, and the honest answer comes on the phone.

If you run crews in the city, the schedule is what you are buying. One number reaches the people who dispatch the trucks. Contractor dumpster rental.

Sizes that fit a driveway lane, an alley or the curb

In Chicago the first question is where the container can physically sit. By length: the 6, 10 and 12 yard are 12 feet long, the 16 yard is 14 feet, the 20 and 30 yard are 18 feet. The 6 yard is also the narrow one at 5 feet wide, which is why it fits a single driveway lane, and it is the only size rated for concrete, brick and dirt. Tell us whether the box is going in the alley, on the driveway or at the curb and we will tell you which sizes fit before you pick one.

We provide same day service to drop off or pick up any of our dumpsters in Chicago. Experienced customers know how much space they need, but first time users may find this guide helpful:

Permits and placement in Chicago

Inside the city limits the permit is ours to hold. The City of Chicago's own permit FAQ puts it in one line: "The company that provides refuse collection services for a refuse container is responsible for obtaining the CRC permit." CRC is the city's term, Commercial Refuse Container, and the Chicago Department of Transportation permits those containers on both private and public property under ordinance 7-28-215. So a container on a driveway, in an alley or at the curb in Chicago sits under the same permit, and the hauler carries it.

What that means for you: give us the address, the exact spot (driveway, alley, street, private lot) and the drop and pickup dates when you call 630-850-0770. The city keeps its container permits in four month periods starting April 1, August 1 and December 1, and the hauler reports where its containers are before a new one goes out, so you are not filing an application of your own or waiting on one.

Chicago dumpster rental questions

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Chicago?

No, you do not file one. In Chicago the permit belongs to the container company. The city's Commercial Refuse Container FAQ states that the company providing refuse collection for a container is responsible for obtaining the CRC permit, and CDOT permits those containers on both private and public property. You tell us the address and the spot, we carry the permit.

How long does a Chicago dumpster permit take?

You are not waiting on an application of your own. The city issues container permits to haulers in four month periods starting April 1, August 1 and December 1, and the hauler reports container locations to CDOT before a new container goes out. What decides your delivery date is the day's route, so call with the date and we will tell you on that call.

Can a dumpster go in a Chicago alley?

Often, yes. Many city lots have no driveway, so the alley is where the container goes. It has to sit where our truck can reach it and where it does not block the alley for your neighbors or the city's garbage trucks. Length decides the fit: the 6, 10 and 12 yard are 12 feet long, the 16 is 14 feet, the 20 and 30 are 18 feet.

How much does a dumpster cost in Chicago?

We quote every job on the phone, because the price depends on the size, what you are throwing away and where in the city the container sits. How it is built: one flat rate however long you keep it, for a full week, with a three day grace period on top. Weight is included up to the container's limit, 3 tons in the 12 yard, 4 in the 16 and 20, 5 in the 30. Mattresses are $25 each. City permit fees are CDOT's and are separate from our rate. What moves a dumpster rental price in more detail.

What size dumpster do I need in Chicago?

Bathroom or garage cleanout, the 12 yard. Full-house cleanout with furniture, the 16 or 20. Concrete, brick or dirt has to be the 6 yard, and that is a weight limit rather than a preference. Where it sits matters as much as the job in the city, so tell us the spot too.

Do you deliver to all of Chicago?

Yes. Chicago is one of our published service areas and we run there from our own yard at 373 Jeans Rd, Lemont, IL 60439 on our own trucks, coming in on I-55. The six neighborhood pages cover the areas people ask about most; we also deliver to the Loop, River North, Streeterville, the West Loop, Lincoln Park and Lake View and the rest of the city.
