What size dumpster does a commercial job need?
Most commercial clear-outs land on the 20 or 30 yard. Both are 18 feet long and the difference is the wall height, so the deciding number is weight: 4 tons in the 20 yard, 5 tons in the 30. A strip-out with ceiling grid, partition, flooring and fixtures is dense material, so tell us what is coming out rather than the square footage. The material decides the box. Here is how each kind of commercial job usually sizes, so you know what to ask for when you call.
Store closings and retail refits
Shelving, fixtures, signage, counters and whatever is left in the stockroom. It is bulky and mostly light, so it fills by volume, and the 30 yard is usually the box. Its 6.5 foot walls hold the most on the same 18 by 8 foot footprint as the 20.
Office move-outs
Desks, chairs, cubicle panels, filing cabinets and carpet. A small suite usually fits the 20 yard. A full floor of cubicles is the 30, with a switch-out if the floor is big.
Tenant fit-outs and strip-outs
Ceiling grid and tile, drywall partitions, flooring and old fixtures. This is the dense one: drywall and tile reach the weight limit before they reach the top of the box. We size it on tonnage, 4 tons in the 20 yard and 5 in the 30, so tell us what is coming out, not only the square footage.
Warehouse and stockroom clear-outs
Pallets, packaging, old stock and broken furniture. Pallets and cardboard are light for their size, so the 30 yard does most of these in one trip.
Building turnovers and property work
A unit between tenants, a common area refresh, or what a business left behind when it moved out. Property managers who turn units often have their own page: dumpsters for property managers and landlords.
A slab, a curb or brick coming out
Concrete, brick and dirt go in the 6 yard and only the 6 yard, because it is rated to be filled level full. In a 20 or 30 the same material goes over the weight limit long before the box looks full. More on the concrete dumpster page.

We drop it on the booked day
Our driver sets the container at the loading bay or in the lot. Same-day delivery is possible when the route allows.

Your crew fills it
One flat rate covers a full week, with three grace days on top. Keep heavy material inside the weight limit: 4 tons in the 20, 5 in the 30.

Swap it or send it
Call when it is full. We haul it away, or set a fresh container in the same spot if the job keeps going.

Placement and access on a commercial site
Tell us these four things when you book and the driver can set the box on the first trip.
Loading bay or back lot
The usual spot on a commercial site. Tell us where your crew will carry from and we set the box as close to it as the truck can reach.
Room for the truck
A roll-off truck backs in and lowers the box off the back. Mention gates, low wires, parked cars or a tight turn when you book.
Street placement and permits
On private property in the suburbs there is normally no village paperwork. Street or parkway placement is the village's call. Inside Chicago the container permit belongs to the hauler, which is us.
Protecting the surface
Our driver sets the container down carefully. Leave boards out where you want it and the driver will use them.

I've used Wastebox twice so far and have nothing but good things to say about them. The person I spoke with on the phone was courteous and helpful at explaining prices. I called around 7AM and my dumpster was delivered before noon. Their driver Jason was helpful and was able to position the dumpster in a way to preserve vehicle access to the garage while the dumpster was in the driveway. Finally, Wastebox is good with communications. They text about 30 minutes prior to arriving for drop off and pick up. Overall, a great company that I'd use again and recommend to others.
I've been using Wastebox for a few years. I love these folks. When I call for an order, the ladies pick up and arrange for delivery very timely and are so polite and easy to work with. The drivers have all been great. Ken has especially been helpful since he was the guy that connected me to WasteBox in the beginning. Ken is always patient and always has a smile and is the so friendly. Ill continue to use this service and I tell all my customers and other vendors to do the same.
I ordered a 16 yd box. The driver was very careful in placing the box in a difficult location and avoided damaging anything. They were also prompt in pickup and left no trace in the area. I did go over my load by one ton. Beth notified me and was able to settle tge account promptly.
Don’t hesitate to use them. Great pricing and reliable. David went above and beyond and dropped off our box in the middle of a tornado when we were hunkering down in the basement. He was soaking wet, but still delivered it as promised. Very pleased 😀!

My driver Art, was great! I asked him if it would be possible to drop my dumpster in a narrow spot with not much clearance. He told me "I can do it with my eyes closed, but for safety reasons I'll keep them open". He actually then suggested a better spot, and that worked out great! Great driver, Great guy, knows what he's doing. Very friendly.

Do you rent dumpsters to businesses?
Yes. Retail and office fit-outs, store closings, warehouse cleanouts, property turnovers and construction sites. There is no account to open, no contract and no minimum, and one number, 630-850-0770, books every delivery.
Where do you deliver commercial dumpsters?
Across the southwest suburbs from our yard in Lemont, including Bolingbrook, Burr Ridge, Downers Grove, Joliet, Naperville, Orland Park and Tinley Park, and on the Southwest Side of Chicago. Inside Chicago we serve the Southwest Side only.
What size dumpster does a commercial cleanout need?
How long can a business keep the dumpster?
One flat rate covers a full week, with a three day grace period on top at no extra charge. The rate is the same whether you fill it the first afternoon or keep it the whole time.
Can I get more than one dumpster, or a swap as the job goes?
Yes. Two containers on the job from the start, or a switch-out when the first one fills, each at the rate for that container. Call when the box is about three quarters full. There is no weekly route: each time the box fills, one call and we switch it out, as many times as the job needs.
What can go in a commercial dumpster?
Fixtures, shelving, furniture, carpet, flooring, drywall, wood, appliances and electronics. Not accepted: hazardous, flammable or liquid material including oil, gasoline and paint that has not fully hardened, tires, and food waste.
Is a commercial dumpster different from a construction dumpster?
It is the same roll-off container. What changes is the material: a store or office clear-out is light and bulky, a strip-out or build is heavy, and that decides the size. We rent roll-offs only, delivered, filled by you and collected, not weekly trash pickup with a front-load bin. Building work has its own page: contractor dumpster rental.
How much does a commercial dumpster cost?
We quote every job on the phone, because the price depends on the size, the town and what you are throwing away. How the price is built: one flat rate covers a full week, with a three day grace period on top at no extra charge, and the rate is the same whether you fill the container the first afternoon or keep it the whole time. Weight is included up to the container's limit, 3 tons in the 12 yard, 4 tons in the 16 and 20, 5 tons in the 30. The 6 yard is rated to be filled level full, which is what makes it the container for concrete, brick and dirt. Mattresses are $30 each. Tell us the town, what is going in it, roughly how big the job is and the date you need it, and we will price it on that call.
