The short answer
Concrete, brick, dirt and asphalt go in the 6 yard container, and only the 6 yard. That is not a preference or a pricing tier, it is an axle weight limit: a 12 yard filled with broken concrete is over what the truck can legally carry off your driveway. It is also why a company that quotes you a 20 yard for a patio tear-out either has not asked what is going in it or is planning to renegotiate when the driver arrives.
Why the 6 yard, and why nothing bigger
The 6 yard measures 12' x 5' x 3' and is rated to be filled level full with heavy material. Level full is the instruction that matters: it is not a suggestion about tidiness, it is the fill line the axle rating depends on. Everything larger in our fleet carries a tonnage allowance built for construction debris and household clear-outs, which is a completely different density from a slab.
What counts as heavy
Concrete, brick, block, stone, asphalt, dirt, clay and sod. If you are unsure whether your material belongs in this group, say what it is on the call rather than guessing: it changes which container leaves the yard, and it is a cheaper conversation before delivery than after.
Mixed loads
A patio tear-out that is half concrete and half timber is two different problems in one pile. Tell us the rough split when you call and we will tell you whether that is one container or two. It is a common job and it has a normal answer.

Can I put concrete in a dumpster?
Yes, in the 6 yard container. Concrete, brick and dirt are not permitted in the 12, 16, 20 or 30 yard, because those are not rated to carry that weight.
Why can I not put concrete in a bigger dumpster?
It is an axle weight limit rather than a rule we set. A larger container filled with concrete exceeds what the truck can legally lift and carry, so it does not change at any price.
Do you take asphalt and brick?
Yes, in the 6 yard, on the same basis as concrete. Tell us on the call what the material is so the right container is loaded.
Can I put dirt in a dumpster?
Yes, in the 6 yard. Dirt, clay and sod are heavy for their volume, so they belong in the same container as concrete rather than in a larger box.
How much does a concrete dumpster cost?
We quote every job on the phone, because the price depends on the size, the town and what you are throwing away. How the price is built: one flat rate however long you keep it, a week plus a three day grace period, ten days maximum, and the same rate whether you fill it the first afternoon or keep it the full ten days. Weight is included up to the container's limit, 3 tons in the 12 yard, 4 tons in the 16 and 20, 5 tons in the 30. The 6 yard is rated to be filled level full, which is what makes it the container for concrete, brick and dirt. Mattresses are $25 each.
