Can You Put Tires in a Dumpster?
No. Illinois has banned used tires from landfills since July 1, 1994, so tires should not go in the dumpster.
Why tires cannot go in a dumpster
Illinois EPA says used tires were banned from landfills on July 1, 1994. It says used tire dumps become havens for disease carrying mosquitos, and open burning of tires causes air and water pollution.
What to do with old tires instead
Illinois EPA says to let your tire retailer dispose of your used tires for you. Retailers must accept used tires equal to the number of new tires you buy. They typically charge a small fee to offset the disposal costs.
WasteBox's rule
Tires are not accepted in any container.
